This is a gorgeous Georgian oak chest of 2 short and 2 long graduated drawers, hand painted & treated to create the aged patina.
A very heavy & strong piece of George III furniture, built to last and now with a decorated patina to give it a beautiful aged look that would sit perfectly in both a country house or any contemporary interior.
Following ancient methods for mixing paint by creating the sky blue colour from casein and natural colour pigments, the finish has then been distressed to give it an aged look by lightly scraping back to make the under coat of gesso visible below the two top coats.
For both the top and the bottom bracket feet I used the same treatment but using dark brown pigments which appear almost black after the treatment.
It was then waxed across the entire piece first using a soft velum wax and then a final heavier wax that has been brushed on to ensure it works through to the wood grain below wax for protection.

The colouring and ageing techniques we use during the restoration process also add to the individual style.
